What we do
We take in hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus) found in Ostrobothnia that are injured, sick or orphaned. Every hedgehog is examined, treated and rehabilitated until it can survive on its own in the wild.
Veterinary examination and treatment are done in cooperation with a local veterinary clinic. The association is responsible for intake, rehabilitation, volunteer work and advice to the public.
Why hedgehogs need help
Hedgehog populations across Europe are under pressure from habitat loss, traffic, pesticides and climate change. The hedgehog is a neighbour: it lives in yards, gardens and parks, and that is exactly why it runs into human activity — mowers, netting, roads and fences.
One treated hedgehog does not save a species, but every adult female returned to the wild may raise another litter. Alongside the care, advice matters just as much: a hedgehog-safe garden prevents injuries before they happen.
How we work
Every hedgehog follows the same path: first aid and stabilisation, veterinary examination and treatment, rehabilitation, and finally release into suitable habitat. The stages are described in detail on the Our work page.
