About Us
Where healing meets nature
Siili-Saari Care Center is a registered non-profit association and hedgehog rehabilitation centre in Vaasa, Finland, working in cooperation with a local veterinary clinic. We rescue, treat, and rehabilitate injured and orphaned hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus) before releasing them back into the wild.
The European hedgehog population faces growing threats from habitat loss, traffic, pesticides, and climate change. Our mission is to provide professional veterinary care for these beloved creatures and educate the community on how to coexist with them.
What We Do
From rescue to release
Rescue & First Aid
Emergency intake and stabilization for injured, sick, or orphaned hedgehogs found by the public. Immediate triage, warmth, and hydration.
Medical Treatment
A veterinarian examines every hedgehog, and care is planned around the injury or illness — wounds, parasites, dehydration and starvation are the most common reasons. Care continues until the hedgehog is fit for release.
Rehabilitation & Release
Gradual recovery in natural-style outdoor enclosures. Weight monitoring, foraging skills assessment, and safe release into suitable habitats.
Education
Community outreach, school visits, and public awareness campaigns about hedgehog conservation and how to create hedgehog-friendly gardens.

How to Help
Found an injured hedgehog?
Every minute counts. Here's what to do while you wait for professional help.
Pick it up gently
Use gardening gloves or a thick towel. Hedgehogs can curl into a ball — this is normal, handle with care.
Place in a box
Use a cardboard box with air holes. Line the bottom with a towel or newspaper for comfort.
Keep warm & quiet
Place a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel beside (not on) the hedgehog. Keep in a quiet, dark room.
